How We Work

Your next move should fit your career and your life

Finding the right role is about more than matching your CV to a job title.

Your experience, ambitions, earning expectations and personal circumstances all influence whether an opportunity is genuinely right for you.

You receive honest advice, detailed information and personal support to help you make a well-informed career decision.

Search current opportunities

The right role, not simply the next role

A career move can affect your earnings, development, family life and wellbeing. That is why the starting point is a conversation about you, rather than a vacancy that needs to be filled.

Time is taken to understand what you have achieved, where you want your career to go and what needs to be present in your next role. That includes the type of company and culture in which you work best, the package you need, your appetite for travel and the balance you want between work and the rest of your life.

If an opportunity does not fit those priorities, you will be told honestly. The aim is to introduce you to roles in which you can be happy, perform well and continue to develop.

A more informed candidate experience

Most of the vacancies entrusted to Advance are managed on an exclusive or committed basis. This creates a closer working relationship with the hiring company and a much clearer understanding of the organisation, the team and what the role genuinely involves.

That insight gives you a fuller picture before deciding whether to proceed. For many searches, a detailed candidate information pack covers the business, its culture, products, growth plans, team structure, role expectations, recruitment process and package.

You can consider the opportunity properly before committing your time to an application or interview.

What you can expect from Advance

Icon

A conversation with a person

Every CV submitted to Advance is reviewed by a member of the team. An automated system does not decide whether your experience is worth considering, and AI is not used to filter you out of the recruitment process.

Icon

Opportunities matched to you

Your experience is only one part of the picture. Career aspirations, motivation, preferred environment, salary expectations, travel requirements and personal circumstances are considered before a role is recommended.

Icon

A clearer view of the opportunity

Closer relationships with hiring companies provide access to information that may not appear in a job description. You can understand the business, culture, team, expectations and reasons to join before deciding whether the role is right for you.

Icon

Open conversations about salary

Salary, commission and the wider package are discussed as early as possible. Clear expectations on both sides reduce the risk of investing time in a process only to receive an offer that does not meet what was originally discussed.

Icon

Support to perform at your best

Detailed preparation helps you understand the role, the interview process and what the hiring team will be assessing. The purpose is not to give you scripted answers, but to help you present your experience and achievements clearly and confidently.

Icon

Communication throughout the process

Regular contact keeps you informed about progress and next steps. Detailed feedback is shared whenever it is available, allowing you to understand the hiring manager’s response and prepare for the next stage.

Icon

Support through the offer and resignation

Once an offer is made, support continues through package discussions, resignation and any counter-offer. Questions or concerns can be addressed before you make a final decision.

Icon

Contact after you start

The relationship does not end when you accept the role. Follow-up conversations during onboarding provide an opportunity to discuss how things are going and address any early concerns.

How the process works

From your first conversation through to starting a new role, you will have support, honest information and clear communication at every stage.

01

Get to know you

An initial conversation explores your experience, achievements, motivations and career goals, along with the practical considerations that will shape your next move.

02

Identify the right opportunities

Relevant current vacancies are considered alongside the type of role that could support your longer-term development. If nothing suitable is available, your preferences can be kept in mind for future searches.

03

Share the full picture

Before you decide to proceed, you receive honest information about the role, company, culture, expectations and package. Where a candidate information pack is available, this provides further detail to support your decision.

04

Prepare for each stage

Interview preparation helps you understand what to expect, identify the most relevant evidence from your career and communicate it effectively. Support is tailored to the particular role and interview process.

05

Keep the process moving

Interview arrangements, feedback and next steps are coordinated between you and the hiring company. Questions are answered openly, and any concerns are raised early enough to be addressed.

06

Support your transition

Offer discussions, resignation and notice periods can all create uncertainty. Continued contact helps you work through those stages, with further check-ins after you have joined the business.

Who we support

Candidate support spans different stages of a medtech commercial career, including:

  • Graduates and trainees seeking their first medical sales opportunity
  • Nurses and other healthcare professionals considering a commercial career
  • Territory Managers, Account Managers and Business Development Managers
  • Clinical Specialists and Clinical Applications professionals
  • Product, marketing and market access professionals
  • Sales Managers and commercial leaders
  • Directors, Country Managers and executive-level candidates

The conversation will reflect where you are now and what you want to achieve next.

Not actively looking?

You do not need to be actively job hunting to have a useful career conversation.

Many of the people placed by Advance were performing well in their existing roles and had no immediate plans to leave. Staying connected means your longer-term goals and preferences are already understood if a particularly relevant opportunity arises.

There is no pressure to apply. You can consider the information, ask questions and decide whether the opportunity offers a genuine reason to move.

Looking to enter medical sales?

Moving into medical sales for the first time can be difficult when employers ask for previous industry experience.

Support is available to help you understand where your transferable skills may fit, what hiring managers look for and how to present your experience effectively. This includes graduates, nurses, clinical professionals and people moving from other sales sectors.

Not every background will be right for every role, but you will receive an honest view of your options and practical guidance on how to strengthen your chances.

Build a relationship for the long term

Some candidate relationships with Advance have lasted for decades. People first supported at the beginning of their medical sales careers have returned for later moves into management, director and executive roles, and some have gone on to work with Advance as hiring managers.

Careers develop over time, and what matters to you may change with them. Staying in touch allows future conversations to begin with an understanding of your experience, aspirations and priorities, rather than starting again from the beginning.
